At OTSCR, we offer different services and use a variety of methods to address your data recovery needs. There are many different levels of data recovery based on several factors: device where data needs to be recovered from, condition of device, severity of damage (if any) to device, and amount of data being recovered, just to name a few. Every data recovery service varies since everyone’s situation is different. With this guide, our goal is to better inform you of the process of data recovery we use at OTSCR to give you a better understating and help you make an informed decision if you are in need of getting data recovered.
Hard Drive Rescue
Our most popular data recovery service at OTSCR is our hard drive rescue service. We created this service to provide you with a quick, easy, and affordable way to retrieve your data instantly from a computer that is no longer working. Most customers who choose this service are customers who have computers with dead motherboards, liquid damage, or broken DC jack adapters. These repairs can run hundreds of dollars that investing in new computer may be a better choice and that’s where our hard drive rescue service comes in.
We could be like other companies that would treat this as a full blown out data recovery where they would recover the data from the hard drive and transfer it to another device (a new computer, an external back up hard drive, etc). At OTSCR, we do not treat this as a full blown out data recovery. Instead, we call it a hard drive rescue. Most customers purchase a new computer, plug in their enclosure, and transfer the data they need to their new computer. For this service, we charge $95 (enclosure included in price).
At OTSCR, we offer data recovery services for laptops, desktops, external hard drives, and USB sticks. We have an array of tools that aid us in recovering data that has been accidentally deleted, formatted, or corrupted. If we cannot recover data from the hard drive because it has an internal or mechanical issue, a data specialist would need to take a look at it. We have a partnership with a local data lab that have the tools (such as a clean room) and expertise for advanced data recovery. We have tried partnering with several big name labs in the area over the years. They have gotten back to us with quotes starting at $2,000! The data lab we use is extremely affordable when it comes to data recovery. Their average data recovery is $500-$900 and we trust that their prices are the best in the area and beat out data lab competitors.
Computers are vulnerable to damage, especially laptops since they are portable. Although manufacturers have taken extra steps to build in protection for hard drives, there is no perfect protection available for hardware or data.
Here are some of the most common causes for data loss:
- Operating System Failure
- Hard Drive Read/Write Head Failure
- Accidental Deletion, Overwrite or Formatting
- Impact Damage
- Moisture Damage
- Hard Drive Electronics Failure
- Motherboard Failure
- File Corruption
- Bad Sectors
- User Error
It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what causes a hard drive to fail but most of the time there are warning signs. Please read our blog post “Why Did My Hard Drive Fail?” for more information on hard drive failure.
